Ok so i've read and read about after market pipes for the KLX250s and the most popular seems to be the Muzzy. I'm concerned though that people saying its too loud, even obnoxiously loud? I thought they were rated for 94db, which is what the stock KLX pipe was rated for too, although i could be dead wrong.

So is it too loud, I dont want to get hastled by ranger rick and his gang.

 

welcome, i know one muzzy read 108 db.... way louder than stock, im not sure what stock is really, compared to what they say it is... but its for sure louder than stock. the big gun with vortex insert is quieter.

 

at idle it measured 93db. at 4000 rpm's it measured 105 db. that's with the quiet core and spark arrester.

 

One of the warning stickers on the bike states its like 70 some decibels stock.

 

Stock exhaust is under 80db. it says it right on the muffler, I belive that is the fedral requirement. At what rpm it is under 80db. I am not sure. The muzzy is on the loud side when comparing it to the stock exhaust but is about on par with other four stroke exhausts. The twobros. is definitly quieter at idle and the lower rpms, but seems to be about as loud through the uppers. The HMF seemed to be as loud as the muzzy from idle through the whole rpm range. These are just my opinions on sound between the three. If you want a full system than the noise is going to come with it, I can't belive that the big gun is very much quieter than the muzzy. If you want a slipon than there are some quieter options.

 

noneof them are as loud as a harley with straight pipes which i hear blasting through our little village all the time.

 

All I know is my Muzzy is loud, now where I live it doesn't seem to be an issue, although I do ride on Forest Service property from time to time. I still need to order the packing kit and see if things settle down. I wish they would make a great power pipe that was quiet at the same time.

 

I'd love to slap on the KLX450 can. If the 450 is low 80db with it the 250 should be whisper quiet

 

 

Wow thanks for all the responses!! So it sounds like Muzzy and all the likes are pretty loud when your going full system...perhaps just doing the stock can mods is the better way to go?
