and its plated. what i would do for that. hope the kid enjoys it.

 

It's not plated yet, but that's the plan. Just gotta figure out what I need to do to make it pass inspection. SC inspections must be pretty easy. The headlight is not hi/lo beam, and there's a running light but no brake light. Those two things will be checked for specifically in NC, so I'm wondering the minimum I need to do to get hi/lo beam w/brake light without spending a lot of money. Mirrors, blinkers, and horn are no problem, I can take care of that pretty cheaply.

He's chomping at the bit to ride it, but the back yard is pretty tight with a lot of things to hit. I'm trying to hold him off until we can get to a bigger riding spot with open fields and so forth for that first ride on it. Even though knows what to expect from the TT-R, I'm pretty sure he will not be prepared for how this bike hits by comparison. So when it surprises him , I want to make sure he has room to recover and not hit anything hard and immovable like the back deck or a tree.

In the meantime, I've ordered the Rekluse and a dBSnorkel. The Rekluse to help him out a bit, he'll still need to learn good clutch control to keep it in the power as he progresses in skill, but it'll make it more forgiving for him at first, and he'll learn to appreciate it even more later when he gets good. And the dBSnorkel to take the edge off the noise, hopefully that'll keep the neighbors from complaining too much.

I got my son the same bike when he was 11. It was a little tall for him so I put in a x-factor bushing in the rear, raise the forks in the triple clamps 3/4 of an inch and got a lower seat ( less foam). This lowered the seat hight by 1 1/2 inches! Now at 13 this last summer he did his 1st hare scramble- in the 0-200 lites class with the adults the took 31st out of 65-
These are GREAT bikes- they will chug all day or scream on the motox track.
My biggest problem now is trying to stay ahead of him and I'm on a ktm450!

If you don't mind the cold and maybe a little snow! I'll be headed to the farm this weekend. It's a great place to learn....open fields and some mild trails, some dirt to jump, and ditches to cross...good beginner stuff. Love to have some company. Just PM me and we'll hook up.
