More mods
I noticed my frame flexed quite a bit more in the seat rail area once I removed the stock muffler. I remember BMWHD making a plate that mounted across theholes where the muffler used to attach, which restored the strength to the RH seat rail.I founda company here in JA thatoffered pretty much the same thing for $20.00 (equivalent).
I thought I would give you all a look at it in case you might want tofab-up your own. I mounted the plate using the stock muffler bolts. Notice how much beefier the LH rail is, due to the frame that holds the battery box. Once you remove the stock muffler, there's nearly nothing to re-enforce the RH rail.
Anyway, it's a lot more stable back there now.

Just in case some of you eagle eyes noticed my air box is removed, I'll have togive you a peek of my latest mod. I orded the BMC filter option for my pumper carb. Sorry for not removing the resevoir for a better view of the filter, but I was in a hurry to wrap things up for the night. I doubt all of you submariners are interested anyway

Here's somewhat blurry back view.

This whole mod quickly became bigger than I thought it would be due to the difference between the 06/07 and earlier model air boxes. I bought the filter thinking I would just remove thecarb inlet duct, and pop it in...boy was I wrong! The later model air boxes are more elongated andnarrow down to a much more restrictive opening. That combination didn't leave enough space to fit the filter between the frame and the airbox, much worse get it to the carb.....soooo, I pulled the airbox which is an intesting operation in itself. Once you get the assembly loose, you have to separate the two halves in order to get it out of the frame...unless you want to remove the shock and that wasn't happening!
I will be replacing the front part of the airbox with anaftermarket oil catch tank that takes its place. The oil breather hose will run to that tank. Pics will come later asthe part isstill on order. Anyway, once this is done, there will be a lot more space behind the carby and the airbox will be nothing more than a storage compartment...maybe there'senough room for ice and a cold one?...LOL!

Thats interesting.... i was gonna say your not going to cover the air filter.... yea that wouldnt be a good mod for dirt models... so the frame on the right hand side is that weak? interesting...... oh... btw i got my airbox off in once piece didnt have to split it
i dropped a bolt down into it and couldnt get it out....lol....doh.... that was a learning experience.

how did you know it was flexing?
how did you know it was flexing?
I worry about that kind of thinga bit more though because I strap-on saddle and seat bags when I go on my long trips.
