C M, another method, and the one I prefer, is to spread one end of the spring out, making the diameter larger. The larger diameter end will keep the spring in the bike while you pop the filter in and out.

That works too, but I prefer Dan's method. Several ways to skin that cat, and they all work.

Thanks!

I just jetted my carb with the dynojet kit because this thread made me comfortable enough to attack this myself. Pics are a great help.

Thanks you saved me some cash.

aloha! great write up! working on my 2006 KLX. just spent today taking out my carb, changed pilot to #38, main to a #125 kouba fuel screw. N1tc needle second position from top. uni filter, bigger snorkle, klx 300 header with FMF Q muffler. still need to put on my 13T c/s sprocket. do I need the block off plate to get rid of the smog stuff???so far it sounds great with a little more oooooomph!

Busy day there.
You don't need the block off plate , you can just cap the outlet where you took the hose off. The plate just makes it looks cleaner.
Are you in HI?

What good is removing all the smog equipment. Won't it make your bike overheat and have less power?
