If it was too lean wouldn't it be hard starting and run like crap until it was warmed up? I have gone through this before with my Yamaha FZ1 and on cold mornings like today, I would need to keep the choke on until I almost got to work. The guys that installed the jet kit didn't put the spacers under the needles. It runs great now, and starts better than when I got it last year. I think it's from turning out the pilot screw?

I have done most of the mods mentioned here, still need to do the crankcase breather one.
Hey does anyone actually know what the special coating is to the cylinder? I have found a specialist race motor coatings shop here in New Zealand and I am keen to do the bore to 300 and get the barrel re-coated.
The weekend ride rocked and apart from a couple of low speed mud rut crashes I did ok. Managed to keep up with the young guys on the 125s. Noticed a lack of clearance a few times though, I bottomed on a stump in a mud hole and it took a lot of lifting to get it out of the mud. I slid over the top of a few rocks too, I heard the plate bang on them.

I don't have the jet kit installed yet. I am still waiting for it from a bike shop. I had the carb off and drilled out the pilot screw.

Ok I got prices back and its like the price of a new barrell to get the existing one bored and re nikasiled. On top of that is the price of the piston kit, gaskets etc.
Any way to fit a turbo instead? jk

On another topic, yeah, I know, find the right thread.
That lil' ol' spring behind the oil filter, most of us are not flexible enough to hold it in place while slipping the filter in.
The answer!
Simple, use an old trick,
Lightly (and i mean lightly ) dip one end of the spring into oil based grease and then "stick" it to the end of the filter. Then insert filter O ring onto housing and slip the whole assembly in as a unit and just make sure its seated before you bolt her up.
Another tip, remove plug cap and give motor a good crank before firing it up.

Dirtsufer.
I'm impressed.
Can you tell me where did you get the new High Flow snorkel from?
Looks great... want one.
Cheers

My air box doesn't have the snorkle on it. It just has a rectangular hole on the top and you can see the air filter when you lift up the seat. Is this better than no snorkle, as there is less restriction? Also, when I am trying to start it in the cold I have to really pull hard on the choke for it to get enough gas. When I put the jet kit in there was no spacer above the needle. I just had the clip and I put it on the third notch from the top. The original needle had the spacer attached to the top of it and I could not get it off. Is there something I need to do to make it richer??

The KX200 snorkel makes the bike less "throaty sounding". I ran my bike w/o snorkel, and decided to spring for the KDX one, since I hated the throat sound. As for carb mods. follow them to the tee. You will avoid chasing down performance problems in the future.... There are tons of threads here and elsewhere on the carb mod...... Keep in mind your location (elevation and air moisture).... Good luck.

Steve, I got it at a Kawasaki dealership.

The part number is 14073-1577 ...Duct Inlet (KDX200 Snorkel)

It makes a big positive difference over the stock snorkel (when used in conjunctionwith the muffler upgrade) and still keeps dust and mosture to a minimum..
Cheers!!
