If you can't change that appt, then take it slow and easy I guess. I would change that appointment though if up to me. I don't take chances like that. But again, thats me.

 

unfortunately i have to risk it since if i cancel i have to wait 2 months since i have hand surgery Monday (carpal tunnel) and it is 2-3 weeks before i can drive a bike again most likely
and after that they do not have room in the schedule

under 5 k or over 6 the noise is gone so i will take it easy and just putter up there and enjoy nature at its best

i do not like it but looks like it is my only option

To be fair, 25 miles is nothing. A cam chain failure is, as someone mentioned, something that takes hundreds of miles to develop from "What's that noise?" to "How much is a new engine?"

I wouldn't use it for off-road mud-plugging or any fun stuff, but just poodling gently on the road should be no problem.

Note however I am neither a lawyer nor bike mechanic

 

Not sure where 25 miles came from, but in this case the rider's bike apparently has over 10,000 km. But you are right, from what has been written, the few thousand km the rider might go should be no issue. Usually when the tensioner has completely quit working and the chain is flapping around pretty good the noise will spread over more of the rpm range.

just installed the my new krieger manual CCT today

after install i went with the first steps and did a little "fine" tuning where

i let the bike idle and loosened the tensioner untill i hear the chain at idle

i then tightened until the noise was gone about 1/4-1/2 turn

reved engine and tightened about 1/4-1/3 turn max (until mid range rpm noise was gone)

no noise now am i at risk of having over tightening the tensioner and blow something up?

ps only used fingers to tighten the bolt

 

update went back to recheck

losend until ticking sound appeared
tighten about 1/4-1/2 turn and noise is gone when reveing up until about 8500-9000 rpm where normal valve/cam noise start showing
used wrench this time

ps. hard to tell turns when doing by fingers and avoiding hot exhaust

 

That hot exhaust is why the instructions show the tool set up TNC came up with using a couple extensions and an allen socket.

If you slowly turned the adjuster bolt in until the ticking was just gone you should be virtually perfect. I use a wrench on the 650, will say there is so little actual tightening force on the bolt that it would spin by the weight of the wrench - very little tightening force. It is just moving the slider in until the play is gone.

 

almost no resistance what so ever
can loosen about the 1/4 turn and ticking starts at idle
my gut kinda tells me that leaving it there will not do any harm (over tight and wear sliders and chain)
