I'd say that 90% of new KLX owners are dissapointed with the power of the stock bike. Throw $1000 into it (big bore, pipe, etc) and you will like it much more. I love mine
You are close enough to come over and ride the Leaf River dual sport ride this spring. April 14th That would be a good chance to get your new bike dirty.
This forum is a hugebonus if you buy the klx, everything you would want to know is here. I'm not sure if you could find something comparable for the Husky?
Best of luck which ever way you go.
Dan

Thanks Dan! I think I could probably save the money difference from the Husky and outfit myself a respectable KLX for my purposes. Power is not why I would even look at this bike, more the versatility. As long as I can get it to be a good 80/20 Trail/Street bike, that'd be great. If I want a full time, rompin' stompin' dirt bike, I'd get a 450.
Believe it or not, an active community is a great bonus to buying a bike to me. It makes for much more fun and makes the cost of ownership less/fun factor greater!
Thanks for the links, it's good incentive to get this up and running!

From what you just said , I would say the KLX is the bike for you. I ride my klx to work about 80% time in the summer. The KLX has plenty of power for the woods riding I do, and I can usually keep up with my bud's who ride orange bikes. I would say it's more of a difference in skill levels that separate us If you look around you might find a barely ridden used bike at a good bargain.

I'm haggling with the local dealer and started a CL search ad. We'll see. I'm going to get one, I just have to get a head of steam up after paying for my wife Christmas presents. This years budget got hurt but it's an effective set up for a second bike I guess! Thanks for all the great stuff!!!

The KLX is the way to go. I've had 6r ninjas as my other bikes and this lil klx by far is more fun since you can drive home from work and just head down to the river. I've done every mod minus the big bore and it really woke the bike up. Its so light, nimble, and so easy to use. Since you will be riding mainly off road you could regear it lower so you can get more seat of yer pants torque out of it. Lots of great info on this site and great people to help you out. The KLX is becoming a very popular bike. Its the KLR650's lil bro! haha
