This little 250s kicks butt
So I gave her a bath yesterday after hosing all the mud off. Installed my new registered license plates, stood back, and wow! What a nice looking bike.
During my morning ritual of coffee, cigarette, and news in my garage with the door open I decided to take the KLX to work. I yanked my roll bag off the back of my Harley and secured it onto the little green dirtbike. Put my stuff on, backed it out and closed the door. All the while I'm thinking "I'm going to get killed today on this thing". Even at 5:45am in my area there seems to be an increasing amount of traffic every day. People cutting each other off, fingers flying. Oh well.
My commute to work consist of 7 miles of streets and 17 miles of highway. I was nervous about getting on the highway with this bike knowing I usually have to keep a steady 70 - 75mph to not get whacked. Not a problem with my 96" HD.
Once I got rolling I started to get the hang of staying with traffic. Sure the motor sounds like its about to explode but a few miles of letting it rev freely it started to feel natural and that's when things got better. It not only keeps up with traffic but can outrun most cars and trucks.
Finally made it to the highway on-ramp and onto the dreaded highway. Hey! not bad for a 250. I was cruising at 65, luckily traffic was heavier then usual. I did get a chance to (required) to speed up to 70-72mph and it was definitely do-able. The seat is another story. I'm used to my nice plush fat *** HD seat. The KLX seat started to feel like a freakin brick after 30 minutes but that's really my only complaint.
Overall I'm very impressed with the KLX and plan on commuting on this bike every now and then. I'll still use my big bike as my daily ride to give my butt a break but the purchase of this little bike is not regretted in any way.
Now I sit in my office answering questions about it. As people show up they know my bike in the lot and wonder WTF I'm doing with a dirt bike.

The seat gets better after a while, or perhaps my butt just got use to it better.
I think its way better looking then any bike I ever had, even the HD. Plus it gets 60+mpg, I aint never got that on anything else with 2 wheels.
I average 47mpg on my HD in normal conditions. I've gotten a hair over 50 on an all day highway run. I once hit 59MPG on my Sportster, another 400 miles of Interstate but overall that bike averaged 52MPG.
Not sure yet what the KLX is going to yield as I've only filled the tank once, on Sunday. I'll know by the end of the day today. Can't wait.

Nobody's Harley is better then mine 'cause it's paid off and it's all mine. Of course, that depends on your definition of 'better'.
Rattled a couple of Harley riders at the lights the other day. Coasted up on them with the clutch in. As the lights went green I made my escape down their inside, 9K plus through the whole box. I think one nearly had a coronary. LOL .As I tore away all I could here was MY bike. Too funny. That's the KLX. I don't have any slab ******.
Hey the guy I got the bike from had the Big Guns full pipe installed. Sounded great but was all rusted to hell in the center where the header pipe meets the muffler pipe. I installed the OEM for now until I can sand down the BG, paint it flat black and slap it back on.
