I have identified a few areas where weight can be shed quite easily.

Step one was to change the headlight and clean up that area.

This has to go.

So I fabricated a minimalist "dash".

The toggle switch is to turn the bike on.
I have decided I only need 2 warning lights and one of them is not what you think.
Both of those are for over temperature warning.
The red one is as it is stock, a way over temp indicator. (I have never seen it on except to check it works)
The green, it will be orange when I buy the right lens, is to indicate when the fan has come on.
It is my thought that I may be able to remove the fan assembly, as it hardly comes on, and just keep an eye on this lamp.
I will monitor it on a few hard rides before making the final decision.
This lamp will let me know if the fan is on even when I can't hear it.
I have no high beam anyway so that can go, I can see the front indicators so that warning lamp can go and I do not need a neutral lamp.

I think I may be taking the minimalist approach a bit too far.

I believe I will achieve a weight saving of about 1.5kgs (3.3lbs) for minimal cost.

Hopefully you didn't do all that JUST for a weight savings of 3 ibs? You added that in fuelwith your oversized tank.

Yep, all for just 3lbs.
Fuel has a use.

That key lock is heavy - probably over a pound or two right there.

Its amazing how much all of the stuff for the stock headlight weighs. With the light I put on, the entire headlight weight about as much as the shroud does for the stock headlight. Those gauges are also heavy.

I have left the keyedingition switch, but at some point I would like to replace it with something lighter.

Here's a pic of the headlamp I'm running.

Diet for the KLX? I find the KLX light enough. But if you want some more tips, try changing the muffler or gas tank. You might save 10lbs there. Or remove all the plastics, might be another 5lbs.

Probable the best way to lose the weight, is for the rider to go on the diet. (No sin committed, just a tip).
