Larger fuel tank?
Hey Dean, have you seen one of these tanks installed in person? I think it looks great, especially in person and even more so from overhead like when you are sitting on the bike. I confirmed the capacity the other night. I was still running when I stopped for fuel and it took 3.04 gallons to fill it which means I only had .64 in the tank so despite what some people are claiming, the fuel doesnt get stuck in the wings and is unusable. I have at least 3.0 full gallons available usable wthout doing anything like laying the bike over to transfer fuel. From what I can see through the tank, it's all usable and probably only the last maybe .4 gallons needs to be sloshed around to find the fuel pickup. I figure if you have had to use 3 gallons without refueling on a dual sport ride, you're probably going to be real happy you have another 7/10ths in the tank no matter how you have to get to it. I have gone from the stock 1.9 gallon to 3.7 gallons. The original tank gave me about 140 miles to empty at about 75mpg. The new tank and with the Muzzy/300cc engine) is good for about 200 miles to empty at 55mpg. I LIKE IT!

That's great if you can get past how 'butt fugly' that tank is.[8D]

Hi Jason,
Can I challenge you to do something? Ride your bike with the Acerbis tank until the engine quits. Then refill the tank to see how much was left in the wings. I am going to bet it's well under a gallon. Also, keep in mind that you can tip the bike so maybe that last little bit isnt the most convenient to get to, you have it and it can be used. I think you are going to find you have about 3.2 gallons usable and a half gallon or less still remaining. I put less than 3/4 of a gallon in my tank from bone stock empty and it's running with the petcock still turned to the main, not the reserve. I'm sold on this tank. No modifications at all, just bolt it on. Fits great, protects the radiators and doesnt stick up in front of me.

I must have an oddball Acerbis tank or something. Two things make me think this:
1) I tried to turn my petcock around a la Marty (lever on the front), and there is just no way. The interference with the choke **** becomes worse, not better. (Did Marty have his TM33 on when he took that shot? I didn't think that was the case.)
2) No one else complains about the huge amount of gas stuck in the wings but me...
mhammer, you said you had to stop for gas and put in 3.04 gallons... Had you hit reserve yet, or still on ON position?
When I run my RES position dry, I have used about 2.9 ish gallons. To me, 7/10 of a gallon is a lot of gas to be carrying around for nothing.

In the KLX250 post on advrider a guy has developed a way to suck the wings dry. He put a T on the petcock pickup and routed a weighted hose to each wing. He claims it will pull all the fuel out. Seems like an easy mod to me.
Sweet, I'll have to look into that... Was that in the epic bazillion page KLX250 post?
If that works, and this tank supplies a full usable 3.7 gallons, it'll be the largest tank available for this bike.
(it is the largest anyway, it just blows goats in stock form).
I'll be very happy if this works - why didn't I think of that...??
I was thinking of external hoses etc, but never thought about modding the inside.
