Well, you notice I said "skid plate harmonic", as that is what often happens with a skid plate instead of just an out-and-out skid plate to frame rattle. On a normal chain cam rattle, I disagree with that a bit. I think a properly adjusting cam chain makes a type of whirring noise rather than the clear metallic sound we hear when it's loose. People's ears are different, however, and so is how they relate to engine and other sounds.

Agree on the whirring noise. IMO, there isn't a "normal" chain rattle. The rattle would be an actual sign of improper chain tension, I believe.

TNC, my ears are like yours.

Got mine this afternoon and installed with ease. Hand tightened and no more noise at 5000. Thanks to everyone for their comments and especially to Mark for his work in solving this problem for all of us.

Mike
I think Mark uses U.S. mail. It's a small box.

Mark shipped Mike's to his old address in error (accepting the blame) and it finally wended its way to Mike just before another was going to be shipped out (had the box addressed and ready). Happy to hear that he got it... now we hope it solves Mike's bike noise.

Once you guys installed the Manual Tensioner and eliminated the cam chain noise, did you then notice new noises that may have been masked by the chain noise?

I have a vibey buzzy noise that I can hear at low speed from the lower front of the bike. I've looked all over for loose bolts and haven't come up with anything, so it may just be normal...

Yes sir I do. Maybe if I get bored I'll pull it off and ride it around without it and take a listen tomorrow.
