I texted CPR1 and the rings have been gapped, but I still have one question. It's the weekend so I don't want to bother him again.

The Arias piston doesn't seem to have any markings (arrow) to show which side goes to the front of the engine. Other pictures of 330 kits seem to show the valve relief cuts toward the back of the motor... does that sound right?

Yes that sounds correct. The intake valves are larger and generally need piston reliefs. Here a pic of my JE piston. You will see the exhaust reliefs are smaller. Your piston is dished and would not require reliefs to clear the smaller exhaust valves.

Good luck! You will love it. Whole new animal!

I love a good shop story! Congrats on the big bore.
It's clear up to 41F here now. Toasty! We had 15F a couple nights ago.

I'd prefer mid 60's...lol The mercury on the front porch hit 88 in the shade. That's hot for Feb. even in Lower Alabama.

I'm gathering all the bits and pieces I'll need, watching vids and reading install reports.... should make a nice weekend project

Don't forget the moly. Needed for proper head bolt torque.

Stopped at the half-way point... checked my valves and while they were in spec, they were all on the tight end so I need to measure shims and order some replacements. Klx678 is sending me his last block-off plate, and I have a few other small parts coming, so I won't be able to get her back together until the end of the week... but there are plenty of parts to clean while drinking a beverage or two.
