Hey ABG, you should consider replacing your DJ144 with a DJ148 or K162 main jet.
That way:
1). There is no worries about the bike being lean during break-in.
2). A DJ148 will unleash ALL the "goodness" in the upper 1/2 of the power band.

Anthony, as far as I know you are not running a lidless CVK setup on your bike. So nothing about ABG's carb setup will apply to your bike.

Your next large performance increase will come when you do-up the lidless setup for stock header.

Lidless setup is sweet.. Only downside is a little more noise, and I get nervous around deep water. I don't like water anyway because I feel like I need to service my running gear right after.

Ready to reassemble. Waiting on air valve gaskets, block-off plate from klx678, new shims for my valves... and I have some heavier Barnett clutch springs coming.

Tonight I:

- Reversed the MCM mod and put the spring back on the KACR
- Cleaned the cylinder gasket surfaces both upper and lower
- Put the rings on the piston and separated the gaps according to the manual
- Installed the piston... wire ring clips are the devil. I did find a video on how to pry them on with a small screwdriver and that really saved my fingers.
- Moved the dowel pins from the old cylinder to the new.. I had to hit the holes with a green scratch pad to get them to slide in
- Moved the radiator hose fitting from the old cylinder to new. O-ring looked good.. had some life, wasn't flattened out.
- Removed the air valve cover and reed valve from the head, then cleaned up the gasket surface.
- Cleaned up the gasket surface for the cam chain adjuster.
- Drank a couple beers and ate a slice or two of pizza

I see in your picture above that one of the head bolt holes is filled with oil. Don't forget to soak up that oil before assembly. A handful of Q-Tips works for that.

No progress tonight, still waiting on parts.

Did put the green scratch pad to the FMF muffler/header joint...it was a bitch to get apart, maybe it will go back together ok.

I'm starting to get excited...can see how it will go back together. Jetting was spot on for the lidless 250, I hope going to a DJ148 will run just as well with the 331 (but with more grunt).

QUESTION: I will search this later, but what is the recommended break-in... I know you should run it through at least one heat cycle, but I'm not 100% how that is defined..lol Then 50 to 100 miles mixed throttle, lots of engine braking, stay below maybe 7k?
