Default KLX300R in a KLX250 frame?

Kinda toying around with the idea of putting a KLX300 into a 2018 KLX250 frame. I'm not sure if I'll do it just yet but I was wondering if anyone has tried or attempted to do so. My KLX250 runs great for the time-being so i think i'll hang onto it for now since it's still new at just over 3k miles but just some food for though I guess. Comments or suggestion welcome. Thanks!

My understanding is that it is the same motor. What Tacoma says, new cylinder and piston and you have a 300.

Main difference over past 300s - kick start only vs the e-start 250. Like was said, there is the AHL 299cc big bore for under $200.

A number of people, including TNC, have actually put on Kawasaki 300 cylinders. The 300 started out as the KLX250R in 1993 or 1994, morphed in 1996.

Awesome information! Thanks guys. Just good stuff to go know in the future as I really do like the KLX250 platform. Mine's EFI which is both a positive and a negative.

I've seen the AHL kit and was curious about these myself. Are they decent quality/popular among owners here? The price almost seems too good to be true.

I never seem to remember his name here, but a rider in Pennsylvania has been running one for a while now. I have one on the shelf to install when I get the other stuff done..

Yes I have been running the AHL Tong Tong cylinder since last late summer/fall. She broke in nicely and is running strong, no issues whatsoever. Some have said gaskets don't line up with water passages but mine did. Just double check.
