Default KLX300 exhaust questions

So i installed a full KLX300 exhaust setup today on my bike. I must be getting old because without the quiet end put on, i still find my bike to be too loud (already ditched a two bros with their quietest tip). Is the HMF or FMF exhaust any quieter than the stock KLX300?

Additionally, does it flow enough to merit rejetting the carb yet again? Right now I'm running the recommended setup for a stock exhaust & hi-flow snorkel. The bike didnt seem to hiccup any, but power did seem a bit low on the higher end compared to the stock 250 exhaust... or maybe it was the terrible amounts of noise that made me think I should be going much faster.

I get the strange feeling me & some aluminum are going to be making a new tip to bolt onto the end of that muffler that will make it quieter, but not as quiet as stock.

i have the 300 on mine. i took the inards from the 250 exhaust and made my own tip (actually made 2 different ones from it). One is from the insides, it is still pretty loud, but not as bad without anything. then, i cut the end off the stock 250, along with the inside tip. with that it is almost as quiet as stock, but not quite. i put that in if i want to be stealth.

i did the dynojet 2152 kit (the one for an 09) with 128 main, 2 1/2 turns out. I do get some backfire, thinking maybe i need to go up on the pilot. I also have the kdx 200 snorkle.

A turn down tip off of ebay for about $25 will quiet it down a lot without restricting the flow that much.

Another option I ran with for awhile was the stock 300 tip with a washers behind it, creating sort of a supertrapp exhaust vent. 1 or 2 washers worked for me and flowed better than stock. I did put a strip of alum tape on the fender where the gasses would want to dirty it.

I too ended up with one of the two styles of ebay end tips. It gives the bike a deaper throaty sound compared to the stock VW tip.

I also am using a KLX300 muffler. It didn't have the tip with it when I got it (I bought it used).

Like chris102984, I didn't like the excessive noise. Besides that, the quality of the sound was awful. It had a sort of a raspy element to it. I liked the performance of the muffler and decided to just put up with the noise.

After a period of time, brown exhaust residue was collecting on the rear fender parts, obscuring the reflector and reflective tape. That's what made me decide to make an exhaust tip.

The tip is 3" overall. 1/4" of it extends inside the muffler end to mate with the recessed muffler outlet. The tip ID is the same as the exhaust pipe ID. So, in effect, the pipe is extended 3".

I was amazed at the reduction in noise and the improvement in sound quality with the tip. That wasn't why I made it, but it sure was a nice bonus.

I have never sees an original KLX300 muffler tip. I have no idea what size/shape they are. Maybe someone can post up that info.

here are the 3 different tips i run with (actually i NEVER use the stock tip). From left to right they are 1) stock tip from klx300, 2) klx250 stock end cap cut off with the tube that is stock 3) the inards from the 250 cut out.

having resizing issues, here's another attempt:

i was thinking of hacking a two brothers power tip to work. or i can use my bro's cnc and mill one out, possibly a combo of the two. i just definitely want it somewhere between the whisper of the stock and the loudness of the klx300 minus tip

if that is what you want, go with something like the middle that I have. If you have access to the CNC machine, then i would make like what is the stock 250 end cap, but maybe double the size of the output pipe (2" maybe).

the machine isnt the problem, it's the nice chunk of metal to use for the machining that i dont want to pay for. i may make a few tips of various sizes out of mdf first to get the exact size/sound i want figured out before pulling the trigger on the actual metal version
