Default KLX250SF Shock for off-road

Does anyone know difinitively what the differences between the S and SF shocks are? I’ve heard all sorts of assumptions but need to know for sure. I have a 2010 SF that I’m in the process of making more dirt worthy (no we don’t need another 17” dirt tires thread). I know the part numbers are different. The spring is different too. I’m guessing the valving is also different. I’d like to keep my shock and switch springs and internals if that’s viable...unless someone wants to swap for their S shock.

I believe The S has a longer stroke to get the extra inch of travel.

Any idea how that is achieved? Is it just internal spacers or is it a different shock shaft or body? The parts diagrams aren’t very helpful on this topic.
