Default Klx250s tach problem

Hello all, new to the forum. I picked up a 2006 klx250s a few month ago and the tach is dead. I checked the wires and have 12 volts at the tach between the bl/y and brown wire. The black wire has continuity back to the coil but I can't get any kind of reading on this wire. What type of signal should I have from this wire? Any way to test it other than hooking up a known good tach.

Thanks,
Nick

Might be a good time to switch out that dinosaur instrument panel for a Trail Tech Vapor. That's what I did to my '06. The Vapor has more and better info too...and it's not expensive.
