KLX250S owners - Would you buy it again?
Hi all KLX250S owners:
I am considering buying one for my wife. I anticipate she being a great rider as she is a damn good moutain bike rider. With the intake valve problem and any other problems you have had would you recommend buying this bike?
The reason I have selected this bike is that its the only street legal dual sport small bike. I live in California so you really cant plate a bike any more so my selections are Husky TE250 and KLX250S. There few TE250 left to buy and the shops that have them want $7300 - $7700 OTD. And that is just too much over list for me.
Thanks ahead of time,
-Jon

The KLX250s is not sold by dealers in California, but you can always bring a used one in from out of state if it has 7500+ miles on it. I have a CA plated KLX and have not a bit of trouble with it.
Why would I want to spend a ton of cash for a Husky and then damm near have to blow the Husky dealer to get one.........Just my 2 cents......Sorry for the rant!

I think he meant the Exhaust cam problem. Well out of the hundred or more guys on here that have bought the bike I think only EMS and I have had to get the thing replaced. And EMS has had perhaps the toughest luck with the bike. Speaking for just me, I would buy another one in a heart beat. Its is the greatest bike I have ever been on. Its absolutely perfect. You say you live in California, howcan you get one there? I thought they were not for sale there. Also how tall is your wife? I might suggest the XT 225 (deej uses this as another opportunity to post a pic of his hot wife) She loves her bike, and can get both feet almost flat. Has she sat on a 250S? Let us know. Oh and welcome.
Here they are side by side. And at $4100 its not a bad price. It also scoots my fat but down the road at 60 pretty well.

the KLX engine is bulletproof. not sure what you're talking about there. a lonnnnggg time ago, there were cam chain tensioner problems, but were addressed in 2003 and that was just for the KLX300. I had a 2006 KLX 250. the only problem I ever had was it was a bear to start at times, downright awful and the worst of any bike I ever owned. Just when you got ready to sit it on it's sidestand and grab a hammer to smash in the tank it would fire. the only other problem I have with the bike is it's lack of power. ride one to make sure it has enough for your needs, whoever you choose it for. the KLX250S is not legal in CA, so you can't buy a brand new one there. I considered the TE250 after selling my KLX a month ago, but at $6199 otd for another 250 I said no. even though the TE would rip the KLX a new bunghole with the same displacement, I wanted more torque so I bought a DRZ400SM. It rips hard and has a ton of torque. I love it. do a search on here to hear more about how much I love it. it has twice the power of a stock KLX. tell the Husky dealers to f-off if they're marking those bikes up that much. they'll have them until next fall for that price. a dealer in Omaha quoted me otd on a TE450 at $6899 brand new '07.

RE: KLX250S owners - Would you buy it again?
I'm stating my opinion prematurely as I have owned the bike a relatively short time compared to other bikes I have owned.
Yes, I would buy it again. If it disappeared tomorrow (e.g. stolen, totalled), I would go buy another to replace it, but would also repeats all of the mods I have in it too (big bore, pumper carb, exhaust).
But I might investigate the KLX400 first (I haven't looked at it yet).

the KLX400 is just a kawasaki branded Suzuki DRZ400 up to '03 I believe, not certain on year. it's an awkwardly tall enduro bike that is as bulletproof as the KLX250 but with a much larger aftermarket. it has old style conventional forks on the enduro version and dual-purpose version. I got the same bike in supermoto trim. The SM comes with inverted RM forks, a 1.5" lower seat height, and of course theoem Excel SM wheels/tires. It doesn't put out 50 horse, but subtract 15 and you've got a pretty powerful stock bike. You can buy the same bike in dirt/street legal trim as well. They make 3 versions of the bike. One full enduro, one dual-purpose like the KLX, and the SM which is what I have. The SM came out in '05 for USA.

Hey Iowa, I believe that this thread was addressed to KLX250S owners. Obviously former owners would discourage anyone from buying. So stfu on this one!
Now back to the question.
Yes, I would buy again. I am pleased with my purchase and have no remorse at all. I've had mine for a year and a half now, and would do it all over again.

Overall, I am very satisfied with the bike. It looks great and is real fun to rideboth on/off road. With the mods, the power is adequate on the highway and for me justright foroff-road.
My only two complaints are:
1. Even with the mods, very difficult to do a clutch-less wheelie
2. Pitiful range with the tiny gas tank.
Hopefully with the Clark's tank supposedly being introduced soon, #2 will be taken care of.
Although if I were to do it all over again, I would still buy this bike, butI amvery very verydisappointed with #1.
