KLX250 stator to KLX300?
Howdy,
I searched but did not find any discussion on this:
Is it possible to fit a KLX250 stator to a kick start KLX300 (early 2000's)?
I realize there would be some wiring work to do but I'm more curious if the stator will physically pair to the 300 engine/side case?
Would seem it might be a cheaper way to get extra output for a dual sport conversion.
Thanks

Unless something has changed, the bore is the only real difference between the KLX250 and KLX300. But you didn't mention what type of stator the 250 has. If it is one from a dual sport or electric start, three phase out put, there is a lot more to change than the stator.

Looking at a 2001 KLX300 to dual sport and figured swapping stators from a KLX250 (dual sport/electric start) might be an easy way to get more power for lights, etc.
If you are planning on riding it on the streets, check with your state vehicle code to see if you will need a battery to provide lighting with the engine off. If yes, that will make the conversion more difficult. The whole wiring harness and electronics from the KLX250 may have to be used. If you only want more available current for more lighting, the KLX 300 stator can be rewound for more output. Baja Designs is one of the companies that can rewind your stator or supply you with one of theirs.

Or if you are feeling adventurous, rewind it yourself.

Thanks Brewster. Nevada does not require lighting work with the engine off.
I was looking at the Baja Designs rewind, looks like that is the easiest solution.
Thanks again for your help
