Default KLX250 gas mileage?

Now that these bikes have been out for a couple years, I'd like to hear what your getting for gas mileage. The KLX would make a fine commuter for me, since I ride about 7.5 miles each way to work on some nice twistw backroads with speeds of 35-50 mph tops.No freeways. Then I'd have a commuter with some real off road potential again. I had a 65 mile freeway commute for many years and decided it was a bit much for my 2001 KLR250, so I traded for a KLR650.The 650 is a great street bike/commuter and I'm getting 52-56 mpg, but its a handfull in the trails.

I ride only for fun (no commuting) and typically keep the revsbetween 4k-8k rpm. Last on road (and dirt road) tank was right at 50mpg, but I hit reserve at around 70 miles if doing any serious off-road stuff. Bike is stock except for HMF slip-onmufflerand dynojet kit.

My bike is straight stock with the exception of a 48t rear sprocket. I got 71mpg todayonsome pavedback country roadswith a few gravelsections mixed in. I didn't do any offroad stuffbut I'm usually closer to 50mpg when I do.

When bone stock i was getting 85 miles on 1.327 gallons (1 time another 1.321 gal.).....which = 64.05 mpg...and that was stock and not running it hard but not babying it.I have yet to figure since i put the larger fuel tank on and the pipe and rejet but i'd imagine not to far off.

A few weeks back we got lost on the trails... (even with GPS, if you get lost, all the GPS does is tell you in which direction you SHOULD be going....[:@])

We ended up finding some trails that connected back to the direction we wanted to go in, but i was running on fumes for sure. Fortunately I fully filled up the tank to the brim before we took off for the ride!!

Witha full stock tank I ran 66 miles. Mybike has the K/Nair filter, #40 pilot and #130 maincarb jets and a big gun exhaust so its not stock airflow/gasflow, butrather quite a bit more flow...

COMMON CLARK TANKS!!!!!!!!!

I'm usually seeing 50-60mpg. If I rode conservatively at35-45mph with the stock gearing,I'd imagine around 70mpg is possible.

My commute is 2 miles, mostly through a residential area where the posted speed limit is 25. I have 4 stop signs, 1 stoplight, 3 speed bumps, and a couple of hundred yards where the speed limit is 40.

In stock form, I was getting 70mpg. Since the mods, I am getting 50mpg. Something strange happened after the mods that I cannot fully explain. Somehow the carb and exhaust work affected the twist of the throttle. My commute takes way less time than it used to. I often find that my bike is still accelerating when it is time to stop, and the nose dives hard while braking. I used to gently cross over the speed bumps, but I find myself catching air now. My tach used to routinely top out at about 5k during my commute, it is often at 8-9k now. There is probably some correlation there to the drop inmileage, but I don't think I'll try to figure out what it is. I'm having too much fun!
