I think you've got that the wrong way round. (I know you have.) The 300 needle dumps more fuel when the bike "comes on song" just above 5000 rpm (works really nicely if you have the "Schmick' CDI with more advance.) The tapers off idle are very similar though.

The KLX likes a lot of fuel "up top," the 300 needle reflects this perfectly.

Can you explain that? So the needle just delivers more fuel above 5000rpm?
Also what is the Schmick CDI?

You guys know this but the skinny end is the wide open throttle end, though the needle never is lifted clear out of the nozzle. Also notice the difference in needle length. The pic should have aligned the clip notches vs. the way it's shown.

On THIS carb design the main size has a lot more of an influence on the other jets than most tuning charts would indicate. For example clip position and pilot sizing doesn't have AS much effect with the (too) small stock main. Get the main sized right then the other circuits will tune in better.
