Default klx250 with 300 kit?

Hi guys, I'm looking at buying a klx250 with a 300 kit but i was just wondering does the 300 kit shorten the life span of the bike and would it mean that the engine could be crap, btw the bike has about 5000km's.

Olly,

You will be pushing up the daisies before any additional engine wear would result from having the 300 cylinder fitted.

The bike is heaps better as a 300 - much more low down torque.

Not at all, it just uses all factory parts and makes it basically the same motor as the KLX300. I still don't know why Kawi didn't just make it the 300 in the first place. Somedealers were eventhrowing in the parts to make it the 300as part of the deal on the 250.

I think that they were affraid that they wouldn't sell any klx300r's. Would you buy the offroad version when you could get virtually the same bike with a plate on it if it was sold as a 300.

Olly,

I think the 300 will actually increase the life span of the motor, it just doesn't have to work as hard as it did before. The engine on the KLX250S is the KLX300 engine with a slightly smaller bore cylinder and piston. I'm pretty sure the reason to market it as a 250 was a legal issue. At 249cc, it meets the magic cutoff of "less than 250cc" for emissions and insurance purposes.

Be thankful it has the 300 kit.

I meant make the KLX250 with the 300 motor...still being street legal.
