The rear wheel will fit up fine without any problems, though I am not sure if the brake discs on the SM are larger than the S - so at worst you will have to switch the brake disc between wheels. Also rememebr that the gearing on a S model is quite a lot lower than the SM so the rear sprocket will be larger - so you will need to switch to a longer chain too.
As for the front, the wheels will fit up with some dodgy mods. I have a thread somewheer on this forum about it. Basically, the 2009+ models have a magnetic speedo mechanism where the 2008 and older bikes have a mechanical speedo mechanism. So this creates a bit of a spacer issue - but you can work your way around it. Also, the front brake disc off the SM is larger than the S model so you will need to change brake discs between the wheels.

I haven't ridden my bike to work hardly at all this summer, trying to save tires! I have fresh ***** on right now, that I have been saving for various off road rides. I need to find a set to put some sacrificial ***** on .
Good for you Adam, get some knobbies on , and you will have fun in the dirt.

Was lucky enough to find some rear trials tires, 2 for $40, so have been running the heck out of the first one. Commuting to work as much as possible over this summer. Should get about 1200 miles out of it...and haven't been nice Braking on the rear to save the nice front knobby. These trials tires hook up very nicely.

You're right. They can load up with mud. But surprisingly not too bad. Did about 10 or so miles in some gumbo clay crap during a rainstorm around Jordan Crater in SE Oregon. My traction wasn't great, but the guy I was following on a BMW GSA 1200 with street tires was having a much worse time. In the pic below, the rain was just starting. It got much worse and had to put the camera away. Lightening was slamming all around us. It got kind of scary. My bike was all loaded up with camping gear, and I was worried about weight and dumping it. Slid around, but never went down. Picked him up a number of times.
Also have had a little bit of difficulty in deep sand (8"+ deep) and on a steep, long climb in 6"+ deep cake-flour soil. This was a steep hill. The poor bastard behind me on a 4x4 quad climbed up much easier, but sure got a dusting when he got too close. I've really liked the trials tire. And the more I watch the guys running orange things around here (and other bikes), the more trials tires I see. Good stuff for around here.
Say 'hi' to Dave. He's a darn good sport. Ya ought to hear his story about the herd of deer at 100 mph.
