I just use a hose, but I'm gonna suggest that's a question for Deej. I think he said once to use a toothbrush. I'm not much into cleaning.

 

I actually clean the chain in two different ways. If I'm just trying to wash the bike I soak a rag with Lacquer Thinner, and spin the wheel while wrapping the rag around the chain until its all nice and pretty. If it is a more extensive cleaning that is needed then its a quick clip snap and it gets dunked in kerosene and scrubbed.
