And as the years went by the amount of oil became less and less even with the dipstick showing Full.
Might have been interesting to take that pan off and see how much oil capacity was gone.

I would never crank a motor over without oil in it, not the first time I've heard of it for someone in search of that magical last drop of black oil. Doing this every 1000K or so might be an issue.
