klx 300 exhaust
am I to understand an 06 klx 300 exhaust bolts right up to the 06 klx 250s . i know the headppes and silencers are not inter changable...but im interested in installing the whole exhaust on my bike..also....how much does the stock exhaust cost for a klx 300
The whole 300 exhaust will fit just fine, I got mine on e-bay for $47 shipped off a used bike. Actually mine says from the 250D on the can but it did come off the 300. As far as the mix and match, that should be fine as the slip ons are meant to fit with the stock 300 setup, so if the 300 full system fits, no reason why the 300 slip on wouldn't so long as you had the 300 headpipe. The full 300 exhaust new is over $400 including the headpipe and muffler. To verify it check out www.ronayers.com
Well it will fit so long as you have the 300 headpipe. Do you mean stock parts wise or aftermarket? If stock you can pull up the microfiche on bike bandit or ron ayers and check the part numbers. As far as aftermarket I think skidplates fit as well and the Ascerbis 3.7 gallon tank, the IMS 3.2 gallon tank also fits but requires a new fan and some wire re-routing and removing a few frame tabs.
The headpipe is close to if not exactly the same diameter as stock, the mounting flange is bigger though so no real gain there. The only gain to be had is losing the weight of the catalytic converter and the exhaust outlet is 1.3 inches vs the stock .5 inches. However you will probably want to make a plate to knock that down to 3/4 inch or so as fully open she's quite loud. If you go back a few pages or do a search for my name in posts, I have posted a video of running around the yard with the exhaust fully open.
It is better to go with an after market header and the klx300 silencer. That way you can have more power and still be as quiet as a stock 300, or remove or modify the plate at the end for what ever sound you want. A four stroke works header is $150 but a muffler costs much more and doesn't add as much as the header. You should be able to find a stock muffler on e-bay for less than $40.
