KLX 250s Rookie Alert
Peace y'all....
Just landed a 09 KLX250s w 15,000 miles. Its my third week on it. Using it mostly as my commuter here in Los Angeles. So far I've cleaned the carb, changed oil and spark plug. This weekend I am replacing the bent bars/throttle/grips, chain and going from the stock 14/42 to 13/45 gear ratio. In 2/3 weeks ill be throwing in a new air filter and Dynojet + Q4. Looking forward to obtaining knowledge on the KLX through common maintenance, mods and forums.
If y'all have any other recommendations as far as maintenance on this lil boi with its current milage, please feel free to share as this is my first bike.

Just a heads up that changing the gearing has a pretty significant effect on MPG, on 14/42 I was getting ~110 miles per tank, on 14/45 I'm getting closer to 80. You will also have to shift gears more often. I'd consider just going to 14/45 (you won't lose any top end speed at this gearing either) unless you're riding a lot of single track or want to be able to pull wheelies easier

I can agree with this ^. Also, if you go with 45, you can alternate between 13, 14 & 15 countersprockets if you want. 15/45 is going to be very close to stock 14/42. Front sprockets are relatively cheap!

I am all about this. Total agreement. The object to get best wear from the final drive is to have the biggest reasonable sized sprockets for the bike. The more teeth the chain is in contact with the more the load is spread. The bigger the sprocket the less the chain has to wrap. So you have less wear. Plus the chain will have less and lighter contact with the swing arm slider.
