Yep, that's how the bike should run. Mine ran like that out of the crate - no mods, started great in any temp. Choke for cold temps (below 30F), no choke when warmer outside. Others have cronic issues getting theirs started...

IMO - nobody should have to change the carb to get it to start in any temperature.

Agreed, but a LOT of us have to at least drill out the enrichment jet. It's not right, but it is what it is. And as mentioned above, when I did this the choked idle dropped from 3K to less than 2K rpm.

little over 8,000 miles on the bike...when the bike is warm, it starts with no problems....after being parked for the night, or a day or two....cold mornings (50's and wet in california is a cold morning), push the starter and crank the throttle...sometimes i have to twist the throttle back and forth 2 or 3 times to start while holding down the starter...i think this is normal for most carb bikes...no?...

i do always turn the fuel off about 1/4 mile before my destination and let the gas almost run out before parking...not sure how fast the fuel flows down when the fuel is turned back on before starting...anybody else do this?

That would suck SO BAD!!! Mine starts in 40F without any choke. No twisting the throttle, just press the start button for about half a second. Fires right up. I leave the fuel on all the time.

When it gets down into the 30's, I have to pull the choke. IMO, that's what I would consider "normal" operation. Choke when cold. No choke when warm.

I realize I'm lucky, but I'm kinda pissed at Kawi that *EVERY* KLX250 isn't like mine. They really screwed up!!! Kawi is very, very, lucky that people are willing to put up with the starting quirks (and/or fix them themselves). This issue should have hurt Kawi sales figures... A LOT!

That seems the way that Kawasaki operates. The KLR 650 has the doo issue going on since day one. There are many businesses that have started up just to fix Kawi quirks.
