Default Kickstand Safety?

I was riding today, and all of a sudden the bike turns off...it will turn back on in neutral, but turns off as soon as I put it back in gear. The wires to the kickstand were exposed and touching, so I separated them and it went into gear fine.

I then put electrical tape separating the wires, and it went back to not working. I had a fall last week where I bent my gear shift pedal, but I bent it back and put 40+ kilometres on since, so I don’t think it’s that?

any ideas? Maybe just a ****ty tape job on the wires? Sounds like something electrical by the way it shuts off.

thanks

how easy is it to do?

I have a brand new 2019 bike, I’m sure it voids the warranty?

If I remember right, the stand switch is connected when the stand is up, disconnected when the stand is down if they are using the same switch as was used on earlier years. I unplugged the switch wires, then clipped the wire of the switch a couple inches from the plug, then I connected the wires and taped them up and plugged the thing back in. I left some wire so I could always reattach the switch... but I threw the switch away the other day, knowing I'd never do it.

fwiw, on newer f.i. / computer controlled bikes, disabling switches sometimes confuses the computer.
i decided to jump the clutch safety on a '12 vstrom (like i had been for years), and after chasing random fault lites, i found out suzuki made the fault happen to discourage us "tinkering" americans from messing with "their" stuff.

So, move the switch up under the seat and "jam" it in the "stand up" position.
