Kawasaki KLX250/300 vs LoncinYF300
Hi Folks,
I have a 2009 KLX250. While looking for some engine parts online I noticed there's a Chinese company making a bike called a Loncin YF300 that has an engine which is a cloned version of the KLX250/300 engine. These parts are easy to find and cheap. I appreciate that they're cheap for a reason, use at your own risk, etc. but for my 11 year old bike there are some areas where replacing with original Kawasaki parts would cost more than the bike's worth.
The ebay/aliexpress stores selling the Loncin YF300 engine parts are all vague about which year their engine is a clone of and which date range of KLX250 models the parts are interchangeable with.
Has anybody used these YF300 parts and is able to confirm which KLX250 years they match?
Thanks

Or alternatively, the head and cylinder of the 2009 KLX250. Which year were these originally introduced for this bike?
I know the 2009 was the start of a new revision KLX250 but I'm not sure whether this revision involved a new/revised engine.
Thanks for any info.

Thanks a lot for the link. None of the suppliers I found on Aliexpress/Ebay stated the age range this was compatible with. From your info it looks like the KLX engine hasn't changed much since the mid-90s.
I also need a cam cover gasket (and possibly camshafts). I found some online parts catalogues and checked the part numbers for the 2009 then 2005, 2001, 1997, etc and the numbers are the same going back to the mid 90's. It looks like the engine head parts for a similar age range should be interchangeable too.
Out of curiosity, how do you rate the Chinese piston/cylinder?
Thanks again.

I'm very happy with the AHL cylinder/piston kit. The external casting of cylinder is slightly rougher but the internal finishing is very nice, piston looks as good as stock. Noticeably stronger, especially bottom to mid range, but I also put on a different carburetor. Running strong, I probably have about 30 hours on it with no issues.

I found that on eBay last week and I've been reading up on it a bit. There's a few threads here that mention it, here's what I learned:
-Make sure you get the one stamped 299cc, not 292cc
-Get a OEM Kawasaki head gasket
-Cut 4mm off the cam tensioner bolt
Souces:
china 300 topend
PSA: 78mm bore kit on Amazon
