Kalamunda to York and back. AUS.

Kev (DRZ400E), Jay (TTR250R), Richard (KTM 640 Adv), Danno (KTM 640 Adv) Andrew, I think?? (KTM 530EXCR)
Met up with 5 other ADVers this morning at the servo in Kalamunda. We planned to "cut a furrow" to York, and back in time for a late lunch. York is approx' 120 km and we pretty much nailed 100 km of dirt each way.
I've been out on these trails before on more than one occasion as they're only about 30 mins from my house, although it's local you can get lost quite easily.
The ride started with a couple of u-turns trying to find a particular trail but without success. Then it was just a case of head east and see what we find. True adventure.

We did hook into a fav' trail I've been down before, a great tight sweeping singletrack with burms and plenty trees and rocks to keep you focused. I found myself whooping and cheering inside my helmet as I exited onto a local powerline after about 5 km. What a blast.

The powerlines are fun, but most of us have ridden our fair share lately so I led the crux section of about 8 km and then we headed back into the woods and more twin trail and singletrack.

There are a few very large 'bike swallowing' ruts along the powerlines and some of the sections popular with the 4x4 brigade are quite technical on a bike due to the erosions. Some steep descents, large drop offs and a few rutted climbs and we were back on a fence line. Time to open her up and dust the 640's. Yehaaaaa!

Marbles, sand, ruts, clay, more ruts, more marbles, a jump or two and a hand full of Kangeroos thrown in to make it interesting. We made Mt Observation in good time and set off for the final leg to York after a short "smoko."

The trail from Mt Observation follows a fenceline for about 8km. Great fun on the sweeping trail in 5th and 6th gear. JUMP. Yeeeehaaaaa!

There was a bit of passing down that section
, and then it was a sixth gear run down a forest road to York. Danos ears were bleeding as he followed me, I was topping ten grand in top gear with the Two Bros' absolutely howling. LOVE IT!
Arrived at york and it was "all park" for some liquid refreshments and some light tucker.
We lay low at the far end of the town so as not to scare the slab ***** with our loud bikes and dirty clothes. (York is a fav' day run for the slabs. All shiny and tarted up in there matching leather doodads with the newest farkle, sipping a double decaf' skinny chai late. Pffffffff.)
The return to follow.

Looks like a great ride! Must be fun to leave those big bikes lagging in the technical stuff.

Anything from 135 km to 170 km on the main tank only (ie' 5 litres.) I've done the MPG math below.

138 main, #38 pilot, Twin Air filter, gutted backfire screen, KLX300R 'high flow' airboot, Kouba FS3 fuel screw at 1.75 turns out, and stock header with Two Bros' pipe minus spark arrestor, Iridium plug and 13/45 gearing.
Getting a constant 65 MPG (28 km/litre) (100% offroad), and I aint hangin' around leading two guys on KTM 640's.

Get as much as 79 MPG (34 km/litre) while using it soley on the slab, (long haul.)
I always use the best fuel available too. BP Ultimate 98 RON for 99% of my riding. It does make a difference, down here at least.
The gearing is the key. Having a useable 6th gear while riding off road.
Here's some perspective! The guy on the KTM 530EXCR gets 15 km/litre.
