K&N oil filters ?
LOL, Sorry, well, I didn't know and wasn't implying your an idiot. You don't know everyones skills on here. I was just trying to cover the basics. I'm a certified MC mechanic, and just tryin to help. Some people can't turn a wrench nor should they.....lol. You know what I mean. I've seen it happen. Just tryin to help ya......

That's great your a mc tech. Lmk your shipping address. I will send you a filter. Be nice to get another techs take on it.
I also work nights as a engine machinest/builder. I was thinking it might be a tolerance stack up issue. Posibly on my bike the housing bosses are machine a touch tall and my cover is machined a bit thick. Both machined in spec but no room for a slightly taller filter.

Yeah, thanks, but hey if they don't work, no need to spend money and time sending me one. For what little they cost, compared to the damage it could do if it fails. Not worth fussin with.
A little story.
I'm wondering now after reading more posts, if there are China fakes/knockoffs out there. I quit smoking ciggs 2 years ago and started vaping to help me quit. I was shocked to learn about how perfectly China fakes some of the better top of line vaporizers (e-cigg) out there. You can't tell the difference in product or packaging, manuals, etc. The only way to tell is there is no warrenty card in the box with the China fakes, or if you take it appart, there is a mold marking on the inside of housing. They even use legit serial numbers somehow, so you find out when you register the unit online using serial number. You get a message saying this item was previously registered. The real makers of these items now take security measures to prove that there's is the real deal because they are loosing so many sales due to the fakes. The real item cost is $70 and the fakes are $40. It's gotten so bad, that the legit supply houses don't even know they have the fake products, and are being sold as the original. No way to know until it's to late. I know this is the same with a thousands of items out there, especially with electronics like the vaporizers, etc. We all know about the fake handbags for women, expensive sneakers, etc, that street venders sell in the cities, etc.
Anyway, got a little carried away, LOL but trying to make a point. There must be a batch of fakes out there, or cheaper made product by the company or something along those lines. Bottom line, if it's not an exact match, or a perfect fit, "I" wouldn't use it. Like I said, not worth messing with. Dirt, grit, metal pieces get in a tight passage like your cam bearing feeds, etc, blocks oil from getting there, can cause some pricey damage. For an $8 filter? If it doesn't fit correctly, don't use it. Just sayin.....

Oh ya no disrespect taken. I was wondering if some have been tapping the housing down or drawing it in with the bolts. Of course we know better and I wasn't going there.

I have always leaned to OEM parts. I know better then to save a buck. Thought K&N should be as good.... Wrong....
I will order OEM only now and be sure I always have stock. Got luck I had one left.

Yep I agree. But I buy some non OEM now that I don't work at a dealership anymore. K&N is normally a good product. This is the first and only time I've heard about this with them. I've been using K&N oil filters for years now without issues. I'll be changing oil and filter on my KLX in a few weeks. I sent you my address in a PM already.
