I hear you. I do think I'm about done with the major mods. I've already paid for the new carb, just gotta wait on it now. I heard back from FSW - they said the parts are back ordered and will call to check status. That was going to be it, for me since I've already done the 300cc upgrade, it's dialed in pretty great right now, but dangit that 330cc big bore kit is calling me now ... [&:]

I don't no why anything you order seems to be on BackOrder[:@] I get real tired of that...... Hey I just looked at the room we have for that filter looks kinds tight. I hoped to just set it wright on top the breather outlet on the motor that is where I put them on ym big 4 cly bikes but not much room here And the exhuast is close if you put it kinda where the hose naturaly goes. But it will fit somewhere we can run a hose out and tie it to the rack Then everyone will say what is that..... My Drag bike had to have a puke tank which is what the crank case breather hooked to on it. But most big bikes have a valve cover breather. You build a Big 1428cc [sm=nxsmile.gif] breathing 114 octane sucking engine and do a burn out at 12,500 and shift at 10,500 it wants to puke oil for some reason maybe because they was designed to have 9000 redline

Come on now you don't need no stinking 330cc kit put some [sm=nxsmile.gif]on it and when you hit a hill hit the button But you might say [sm=badidea.gif]then maybe something like [sm=noooo.gif] then next you will say[sm=oopssign.gif] but after running the power spray all I can say is[sm=signs003.gif]

HEHEHE You The Man Nobrakes

I can't even imagine sitting on one of those drag bikes and hanging on while that thing rockets up the strip ... takes some serious nerve to do that, IMO!

And yeah, once I did that first mod it was all over ... somebody stop me! I've got quite a pile of parts at the end of my work bench in my garage, pretty soon I'll be able to build a whole new bike That's one of the things that make it fun for me though - I get almost as much enjoyment working on it as I do riding it ... almost!

one more quick question guys... well 2 maybe [8D]
1. is water an issue with this setup? What if your hittin the mud/water and this filter takes a good splash?
2. (if anyone knows the answer) whats the smallest filter for this application? as stated by big bear the lack of room may be a PITA.
thanks again.

Nobrakes is going to post a pic of what he comes up with as far as mounting it. I will post pics also soon as I get my filter ...
As for water and mud if it splashes on it that should not be a problem I would not put it under water. I really don't ride in area's with water holes so its not a concern for me. I might look at useing a longer hose and put it up high somewhere. I will figure it out once I get the filter. I might even put it up near the coolant tank behind the side cover. The purpose of this mod is to keep from putting hot gases from the crankcase back into your carb . If there was room to make a duct from the front of the bike and force air into the air box that would be the way to go. But as you no this little bike does not have much room for that....

WHOA!!! STOP!

I went to install my filter and the diameter is too large. It appears the doc on the order page might be a bit ambiguous. The size quoted says 5/8" but doesn't say whether that is for the inside or outside diameter of the flange. Our crank hose has an I.D. of 5/8", so that's the size filter I got - seemed to make sense that 5/8" hose connects to 5/8" filter, but that is not correct! The 5/8" filter's flange is actually 3/4" O.D. and won't fit on our crank hose. The quoted measurement appears to be the inside diameter of the filter itself. I think we want probably the 1/2" size instead.

I'm going to make an adapter here and make mine work - this is just a warning / heads up to others.

BTW, as far as mounting goes, after you disconnect the crank vent hose from the airbox, route the hose to the other side of the bike where it will sit up near the suspension on the left side of the bike behind the left number plate there should be room to tie it off there.

EDIT: actually, I think I got the right part - that filter appears to be designed to mount over top of something stiff and then use the hose clamp to cinche it down. I got a 5/8" Help brand adapter - see photo below, to make the connection. It adapts a 5/8" opening to another 5/8" opening and appears to do the trick. I don't think the rubber filter I got would have enough stiffness to maintain a good connection to a hose, even if the inside diameter of the hose was large enough to fit over the filter flange.

Here's what I did - I'm sure there are lots of variations. Here's mine:

The part - this is actually not quite the right part. In the next photo check out the adapter I bought to make it fit the crankcase vent hose.

Help brand plugs to cap off the airbox connection and the adapter to connect the filter to the hose.

Here's how I chose to mount mine - just route the crank hose under the carb to the left side of the bike, attach the adapter (if you need to) and the filter, and tie it off above the suspension using the hole there as a tie point. I used .032 stainless steel wire.

Snug it up, and tie it off, it makes for a nice fit up there out of the way and up high.

Here you can see the hose routing from this vantage point:

I went for a test spin and everything worked fine. I can't say that my senses are so finely tuned to be able to detect any profound difference in performance - I did have a 3/8" drilled vent before, and now the opening is probably 1/2" due to the adapter I used. However, another benefit of this mod, IMO, is that you are not backfeeding the dirty crankcase engine gases and oil back into the carburetor.
