Default Just got an 07 250s for FREE!!!

First off, Im a noob. Been looking on here for a couple days when I heard I was getting a free bike. My ex brother-in-law is shipping out to Iraq at the end of the month. So, I inherit a bike. It's only got 180 miles on it. Still brand new. I think the color scheme is a little off, so, being the custom painter that I am, I changed things up just a little. Took all the street stuff off as it will not be a street bike. Heres my thing, it is seriously underpowered! I have deduced from looking around that I need a (1) FSW header and I have decided to go with the 2bros slip on. Do I need a midpipe? (2) I am going to add some teeth to the rear spocket. Other than the air box and re-jet and exhaust, what else can I do to this to open it up for free? Thanks guys. I will try to take some pics of it and post them this weekend.

First things first, hats off to your ex-brother in law for serving our country. Second, welcome to the site; it's the best source for KLX owners on the net. Third, put the street stuff back on that way you can use the roads to get to and explore for trails. Fourth, enjoy the bike it gets better power wise after break in but there's plenty of folks here to help you make it what you want it to be.

Mike

Drill out the exhaust and go big bore. You'll spend just as much money on a shiny pipe as a BB kit.

What do you mean "drill out" the exhaust? I've been riding my whole life, but never had to do tons of stuff to get power. My last bike was an 02 kx250. All I did was put on a slip-on pipe and go.

As far as making it street legal again, there is no need. I live in lake havasu. You can run a quad up and down main street and the cops dont care. Plus, I just ride about 1000 feet and I'm in the desert.

2Bros does make their M7 for the 250s and the 300. What gasket are you talking about?

you are a very lucky dude...... my brother is not gettin' my KLX if I ever have to ship out!
and a self professed noob should really just break it in and ride it; after 5-6K road and dirt miles under your belt, maybe try doing some big upgrades.
I would do a re-jet and free mods, if you tear out some of the smog stuff and get a little more fuel going throught it the bike will be much happier.
