Well my average was the 1st 1500 miles was about 65mpg...

That was with a HMF pipe and quiet core...Thruway/City streets/Offroad..

Now the next 150 miles with a 132 jet and 2.25 turns out and snorkle removed....Runs great and doesnt appear rich....46 mpg....The bike is running great and Im sure there are some fine tuning I could do to get my mpg back....But almost 33% less mpg for a bike that doesnt smoke the rear tire off or even close to impressive...

I was gonna match my current combo up with my new 13 tooth...But geeze...Id be at 38mpg....Almost a 50% reduction in mileage......If I wanted that Id a bought a KLR 650 and learned to muscle the weight.....

For me my new plans are to get the 124 jet to work and get my MPG and half the power I got from switching from a 118 jet to a 132......

Dont get me wrong its a blast to drive but nowhere near worth running empty at 67 miles into a tank before reserve...

I think you still alitlle fat. Do some wide open plug chops (new plug) see how it looks then make a decision. Hang in there its not all bad you'll get it better. With my setup I'm around 50mpg.

Whats your tail pipe look like? Black sooty or?

I have a 128m and the outlet is powdery light grey

I just checked my pipe with my sock...lol

98% clean....Very little soot...No smell of fuel except a faint smell of a long day at work..lol

But I changed to my new plug with 30 miles on my current set up and seen slight soot....

My experience is most say these bikes run lean stock...My thoughts at idle and under 35mph sure or 4k rpmz......But not in 6th gear at 7k rpms.....When I checked my stock plug with stock carb....It looked perfect..Pipe was barely blue at the bend.....I couldnt run without the air box lid but probably snorkle out..

My guess is a 124 or a 122 jet with the right k&n/Unit filter and perfect fuel air mixture would give ya close to the same power as a 132 or 138....I bet if ya measured the ponnies you might see a 1hp-2hp difference at a difference of more then 10-15 mpg better....

Now everyone drives different and ya....Ive got ito my bike more then normal...But not more then Ive done before..If this was 80% offroad...Sure...Id be happy to get 20mpg in the search of more dirt power...

B/C I am thinking of upping to the DJ132 main. Might be a gain in mid-top end, but mpg will suffer I'm sure.

WTF. I'm running a tad rich (perfect for the AUS winter here) running a #138 main #40 pilot and no lid. Still manage 68MPG, mixed terrain.

The file shots from the OE manual give some insight of what is expected from this model carb'. (CVK34 on KLX250.)
This is from the 1994 'G' model (same carb' as 07/09.) It shows the stock HP as 25 with the OE settings of #132 main and #35 pilot .
The G2 model only differs in its use of a #40 pilot.
These settings are a good bench line to start tuning the carb'.
This model has essentially been around, unchanged, since 1994. (14 years plus.)
One thing that has changed is the amount of "CHOKE" the bikes come from the factory with.
Modern emission laws.
This bike will perform with these OE settings.

Something is definitely wrong. I'm running 132 and 40 jets with 13-45 sprockets and I'm getting 55-60 mpg

My road setup. The OE 14/42 sprockets. Long, long top gear.
Oh yeah! 98 RON fuel, but we've been through that one hey!
