It will bump start easily. The starter turns it over but not fast enough for it to start. I disconnected the on-board battery and jumped over to a strong Odyssey battery with lots of cca, still turnes over just as slowly. When it runs, it runs! I installed the bill blue 351 top end at around 7K, now has 10 k on it. Possibly a bushing binding? Cant get to it again until next Wednesday or Friday.
Maybe it has Covid

There's been some talk about a KLX700 I've heard for all it's worth. Google it. Looks like it could a KLR650 replacement? I'm not sure, I guess we'll all find out come 11/23 per the Kawi website. Still not throwing in the towel on my 250 tho

A fellow KLX650 rider from the old Yahoo KLX650 group built a KLX700R rally bike to race in one of the long distance rallies in Australia. Richard "Fogy" Fogarty went wild with his work, stroking one of his Rs to make a 700, not just a 700, but a full tilt rally bike to rival the KTM. His bike was featured in Australian Dirt Bike. He sent me an issue.

That's a nice looking bike, way over my ability. I'm going for something more street oriented, I'm going to keep the KLX for ST.

Over on Adventure Rider this has been a matter of big discussion on a couple of ongoing threads. Lots of good points made and supported and/or debunked. Bottom line is there are so many different kinds of riders with so many preferences and different riding scenarios that it's impossible to settle on the perfect "unicorn" bike. The closest thing that does become somewhat perfect is the scenario of two bikes for their intended use. I tried living with just my KLX for some time now, but on rides and/or trips where more pavement was desired the KLX was painfully lacking. Mine is awesome for off road and 2-track, but it just sucks on pavement IMO. I got a Z650 to rectify that. I could have gone with a T7 or such also, but for the money and since I already have a good off road bike, an economical and more pavement bike like the Z650 fit the bill. Some level of disappointment usually follows the one-bike-do-it-all approach when it comes to off road and pavement.
