A humble question.
Just realized I'm becoming a regular poster around here (poster=lost fool in my case, haha). Alright, got the first round of parts in today. Some ProTaper Contour bars with a KX High Bend, a Zeta aluminum throttle tube, some Tusk adapters for fatty bars, and some "cute" (as my wife put it) grips that are green and black. Yay! But... I've got a slight problem, the new bars are higher and wider than the crappers, I mean stockers. I've fiddled with the throttle cable and can't get enough slack, at least I think that's the problem. About a half inch from the end of the bars, I get a nice quick return but if I move the assembly out the return is extremely slow or nonexistent. Am I right in my too tight assumption? If so, I see two options either cut the bars or get a little longer cable. I had the same fight with the clutch, but I ended up getting it after 10-15 minutes trying different ways of mounting order and gave it some slack. What do you guys think the best way to do it would be. I'd kind of like to keep the length of the bars...I dunno.
Thanks for any and all advice,
Mike

installing high bend bars is lot more complicated than it appears...everything needs to be longer...my protaper carmichael bend has a 40mm rise...the stock cables fit exactly on the carmichael with no length to spare....kx high bend has a 70mm rise... Seven Eighths | Pro Taper ..about 1.2" higher...so...if you get like 2" longer for everything, that should work...i remember reading about others that just took the cable off the hooks to make it reach...i'm sure if you dig, you'll find post about that...
Cable off the hooks? Which cable, the push? And the carb hook? Or... sorry, just not getting it. Also just thought up another question, what are the adjustments on the cables at the carb for? It didn't seem to affect cable length at all.

from the little ive read its a common problem, not having enough cable slack
not sure if most just get new cables since I have no interest in changing the bars I never remembered what they all do
I just remember alot run short like you do

sorry, i don't remember...i just remember somebody mentioning something about not running the lines through the hooks and holders on the bike...
if you do decide to get longer cables and everything...i'll gladly buy your stock if it's all in excellent condition...i'd like to keep a spare...

You are definitely going to want new cables. You can get custom cables to length from Motion Pro. You will have to determine what lengths you need.

Alright. So, anhn you can definitely get my stock cables from me as there's nothing wrong with them as far as I know (they've got probably 4,000 miles on them and a get-off or two but they worked great before I shattered my throttle tube, and I'll sell them for next to nothing). I don't run in trees very often at all so I think I'll leave them for now. If needs down the road change, I can always do it then. And is a little too much cable a bad thing? As about the only measurement I could give would be a guesstimate by taking the kx high and stock lengths and calculating the difference.
Thanks again for all the advice,

Have you tried flipping the throttle assembly upside down to where the throttle cables are running under the handlebar instead of on top? I did this with my TM36 conversion which necessitated the cable to reach over to the left side of the carb. The design of the OEM throttle housing allows you to run it at any position of rotation that works for you, and it gives you more length/slack when turned upside down. At least it did on my '06.
