Default How long is too long

I'm trying to drain my fuel bowl and have been running my xt225 for over 10 minutes with the petcock OFF. How long should I expect before it stalls? I know the petcock works from the main to aux but not 100% sure the OFF position is working.

Thanks

I really don't count the minutes, but it does seem like its forever before it runs out.

Try driving it with the peacock in the off position to see if it will die.

10 min sounds like its not off. You can rev it a little or ride around in circles in your driveway. You need to have it exactly 90 degrees.
If you are able to ride it or rev it and it dies out I would wait 20 min and try and restart. If bike restarts AND stays running for more than a few seconds you have a leaky petkcock.

why not just get a screwdriver and open the drain? running it your not going to empty it.

Running it will empty it, at least enough to allow fresh gas to get in next time you ride it. 10 minutes is too long to just let it sit there. Here is what a lot of us do, next time you are out riding shut off the petcock like 3 blocks from your house, that way it will run most of it out, and then it will only need to idle for a minute or two.

Could be a petcock. Is that petcock vaccumed operated? If it is it will have three postions--PRI--ON--RES and you can not run those dry. They are always supposed to shut off when the engine is not running (lack of vacuum) & always be on when the engine is running. If its on PRI it will spew gas all the time.
