I agree... take the MSF course. It's interactive - you'll get feedback from the instructor. A lot less pressure than going in cold and taking a road test. The skill you'll gain in the MSF course just may save you from an accident some day. Well worth it, in my opinion.

Gotta admit it though... I got picked on a little more than the others when I took the class. I had the most maneuverable bike there (KLX250, of course)! I could do the weaves at 5x the speed the guys on cruisers could.

The KLX was great for the course. Fast through the weaves. No problems at all with the stop and sharp turn. And wheeling accelerations into the hard stops/stoppies getting up to over 45 mph wasn't something the Harleys were going to do.

I rode for years without the endorsment as laws were not something I really cared about. No problems until I had a new sport bike and got run over at a stop sign. I was rear ended but it was my fault as I was not suppose to be on the road, I had the permit but I was 2 up without lids and they treated it like I had no endorsment at all. It worked out ok but I got it soon later and am glad I did.

If you need any tips or pointers on taking the test let me know, I took mine about 3 years ago. I took the road test at Salem NJ DMV. Use an automatic motorcycle for the test it makes it alot easier. You might look goofy in one of these but this is what I used, I rented it from a local Honda/Kawi dealer for about $75

Yes, the guys on a kawasaki forum are much better to answer questions about NJ state motorcycle law than THE NEW JERSEY DMV SITE.

Makes sense.

I agree the best place to go is the website, but they do a poor job explaining how the road test is set up. The written test was very straightforward, had it done in a matter of 10 minutes.

I had a buddy who took his road test give me some pointers back when I did mine. That's why I rented the ruckus lol. I'm sure I could have passed in in the KLX but why make it harder than it has to be

I had a buddy who wanted to loan me a bike for easier testing. But I wanted to take the test on the bike I ride daily. And I got to learn how to do stoppies on it -- what fun.
