Do the free mods, install a 13 tooth CS, and get fork springs that fit your weight, if needed. You'll have a great little Dual Sport at that point that will take you anywhere and goes fast enough to scare you. Just remember its not a MX bike and you'll like it.
Off topic now... You can still ride on the West Mesa huh!? I lived in Albuquerque in the late 70's and we used to ride there and up in the Northeast heights where Indian School and Menual (sp?) dead ended up in the foothills up past Chellwood(sp?). Tramway was a dirt road until you got up to Montgomery. Last time I went through there, there was houses built all the way up into the foothills.
We also used to ride off South Broadway on some big dunes that were south of the Airport and Kirtland.
