Interesting situation with heavy winter gloves!

I was riding to work the other day on my V-Strom - dual front discs that are huge and multi-piston calipers - when this driver decided to lock up the wheels in the middle of the road. I had no idea why, but I just started stopping. With the big, thick insulated gloves on and liners, I didn't have as much "feel" as normal and I felt the front wheel lock up and start to slide. I simply released it, but that is the first time I've locked up a front tire in a long, long time.

When wearing thick winter clothing, remember you don't have the range of motion that you normally have.

Be careful out there!

+1 on gloves and liners being too bulky. My hands still get cold even with the gloves. The grip heaters are the better solution yes but I liked these (not for the looks.....really) because I could remove them easily and stow them in my pack. I'm not sure that I could wire the grip heaters myself and I'm scared to ask how much the shop would want to do it.

I've seen some cold weather off-road enduro riders wearing those hippo things. They look like a good idea to me - function over fashion, IMO. Why should you care what other people think? Heck, it just means you get to get out and ride and have fun and even do it in comfort while the fashion police have to stay home or risk frost-bite, so they're not out there to see you anyway

LOL.

I would put a sheepskin on my seat for a long ride then laugh at everyone with monkey butt back at camp. The only problem I see with the Hippo Hands is it would be harder to flip off the people that are laughing at you. j/k

vfrpilot, I agree with you. Part of the reason I ride is to enjoy the inclimate weather but safety becomes a concern when your fingers are so cold you can barely move them.
