Yea, The orginaized rides are expensive. It took me awhile to get used to it. I have not done it yet but I like the idea. Good call on GPSing your route and then you can do it yourself after. I need a new GPS with that capability.
I have been looking at a 4 day (3 night) in Baja and that is $2100. Wow, you stop and think about how much road trip you can do locally on your own for $2100 bucks and it sounds like you gotta be crazy to pay $2100 for 4 days in Baja.
Neil and lcpl and Dan888 and others have it. Just do it. It's just $750, and you and your cousin will have a blast.
I did a kayaking version in 2007 with my brother in La Paz (Deep in Baja). We still talk about how much fun it was. I like the state side version, I'll have to look around locally and see what I can find in that range.

Get caught and you're booted off the tour.
Apparantly he has a bunch of permits to ride on the trails he takes us on and if people start riding them too much they might be closed.
At the end of the day, he is running a business.
