Headlight assembly upgrade 2006-7 KLX250S
I have the Maier MX rear fender installed, and waiting for the flexible turn signals from EDS to come in (also got the updated flasher from 12 o'clock labs).
The one thing left that stands out on the bike is the entire headlight assembly. I'm not even talking about updating the bulb - the headlight shell is bulbous and sticks out from the triple clamp by at least 5 inches maybe 6.
The trick is I don't want to ditch the stock mechanical ODO. Ran into issues doing that on my last bike (KTM) when it came time to sell (stated mileage didn't match what was on the trailtech I upgraded to). Sorting that was a headache.
So.. has anyone figured a way to retain the stock speedo assembly while fitting a slimmer, more modern looking headlight shell? Most of the space is taken up by the monstrous old DOT incandescent.
Will anything bolt up to our first gen KLX250s without ditching the stock speedo/key assembly?

I think you can swap an entire 09+ assembly on and keep your dash, may have to make/modify a few brackets but the spacing looks right....
There are also a bunch of universal headlight assemblies from Baja Designs, Acerbis, and others

I had to fidget with the Baja Designs Squadron on my KTM 640 quite a bit to get it suitable for road use. It needed a dimmer, which failed about 1 year after purchase. The LED module itself died about 2 years after purchase, I was just still in warranty for them to swap it out. I'm pretty sure I don't want to go through those aggravations again. At least not until the reliability improves. Also don't like the idea of mangling the OEM wiring, which was required for installing the Squadron. BD does not make a bold on Squadron kit for the KLX250s.

Ok, I think the cheapest option to go that route would be to get a green sticker/vinyl wrap. You COULD get the '09 Green/white like above AND a '11/12 black/green and combine the two (the upper is detachable).

Been checking prices on used second gen headlight bits and they aren't cheap. Brand new OEM parts are about the same price.
If I could find the main headlight bracket for cheap I'd get it just to see what's involved in making it fit.
