There's a whole market of buyers out there uninterested in anything without an HD logo on it. If this is what it takes to get them off road, all the power to 'em, I guess...
Oh, wait, it was the explosion of HDs on the street that drove me off road to get away from them in the first place! Never mind...

I think you guys are being too harsh... throw in a different motor, a different frame... maybe replace a few other parts, and you might have something.

Actually HD did make an acceptable dirt bike at one time. It was a striped down model with a horz 250cc engine. Nothing like todays bikes, but it could be ridden on a trail without taking a shovel with you to bury it when it fell over.

Yes! I've seen pictures. My father used to have an Indian 250cc single 'scrambler' kind of thing way back in the early 60s too.

Remember the Fox rear air shocks that one of their high end dirt models came with? Pretty unique back then. That aermacchi based MX250 was actually a somewhat decent bike.

They needed to put in the rebel 250 engine in a small frame bike, that gets 80mpg, does 65mph, and is 3500 msrp. People would buy those up like hot cakes.

Two words...

BUTT UGLY!!!

Back in the 70's, Harley made some decent off-road bikes (they made snowmobiles back then too). For the looks of this one, they've definitely forgotten how to build an off road bike!!!
