I use a Garmin GPSmap76. Now discontinued. I tend to drop things in water, and this model (and some of their others) floats.

I whacked hard in a Moab tub and busted the RAM mount. The GPS and other parts took a beating, but the GPS was largely unphased except for scratches and a need to re-load the firmware.

That's why I have a problem buying a $500 GPS like pogiboy posted up. Mine would be in pieces

Thanks for all the info. I was thinking about a spot, but like rgoers said, it's only good for being tracked. I was hoping for an all in one.

I'll look into the models recommended the next time I'm in front of a real computer, instead of a phone. Like i said in the original post, making/sharing tracks and the ability to be tracked are important. I forgot to mention the most important thing I'm looking for... EASY TO USE!!! I'm not totally dumb, but I am totally impatient. Spending any more than 45 minutes figuring this thing out isn't an option..

durielk - which etrex do you have that came with topo? Is it the Etrex20?

dan888 - if I spend $500 on my KLX it'll be running on 351 cc's and still no GPS.

You gotta have priorities.

etrex Vista HCx, it is a hiking GPS. You can get a mount for it, but have to create your own interface with the handlebars.
Got it at Cabella's (www. ordered) and it was bundled with the conteninental north america topo.
I don't know any of them that are easy to use.... But mine can follow or lay tracks. I can setup tracks on the home computer, load it, and follow it on the moto. I am satisfied. Good for finding your way home after your lost.

Garmin 62s. It's a great GPSr that I use for both riding and geocaching....which are two activities that I frequently combine.

Create your own interface with the handle bars? How about just using the RAM mount? I have the ball on both the KLX and KLR and the suction cup mount for the truck.

I love my etrex. I use it for geocaching, dirt biking, on road directions, and even on my mountain bike.

On my KLR.

Screen size is king when you are rolling down a trail. I use a Garmin Colorado, and am pretty happy with it, but it's certainly not perfect. I built a 5V adapter and installed behind the headlight, so I have power to the GPS from the bike's battery. I have slick little ball head / bar mount which was really cheap.

Personally, I'd prefer to use a marine GPS for a much larger screen, but then we are taking bigger bucks, and asking for trail damage.
