Default Gps

Was thinking of taking the plunge and getting a GPS but am next to clueless as to wear to start. Vibration and water resistance has to be way up there as id like to mount it to my bars.

Any suggestions guys?

Thanks!

Cheap: A used Garmin off ebay or sumthin the 276 is cheap and ok.

Best: Garmin Zumo....awesome built for motorcycles...but pricey

Garmin makes the best and toughest gps out there....what do you want to spend???? Do you want maps that can be inserted via card or just interface with your computer?

Give some details what you want....we should be able to find your cheapest and best option. btw I do know gps's.

Interface would the computer would probably be easier, spending wise cheaper is better, so under 200ish but id rather buy one nice one than 2 cheap ones, know what i mean? Also another concern is a screen i can see in the sunlight easily. i know I know im picky

If you can stretch to the Zumo, go for it.
Apart from being specifically designed for bikes, it comes with enough accessories to make it a good car and portable option.

I have a Zumo 450 Yes it's pricy but I get lost a lot =). I love it because it's waterproof up to 1/2 hour in 3ft of water so if you crash in a river, wash it with the hose etc. it's ok and it can draw a line where ever you go so you can find your way back through the jungle. I also use it in conjunction with Google Earth I just search around town until I find a new place to ride then I just punch in the coordinates and go hunting. The first time I used a GPS was in Maine I had just got my Garmin Nuvi (yes I'm a GPS ***** and have 2) I went out for a ride by myself and took it so I at least knew wich way was home. To my surprise it actually knew the logging roads and snowmobile roads I was on.

200ish is easily doo-able it just limits your options because we would have to include some sort of mount.

You definately want it to have a dc plug to your mc battery not alkaline batts, for sunlight with color you want a TFT screen. I'm not sure what a 276 goes for these days but it is a good tough unit that you can submerge and will plug into your computer for all kinds of maps and downloading waypoints and breadcrumbs from rides etc .....check ebay on pricing for that unit.....If you need cheaper I know of less popular marine units that will do all.

Those Zumo's sure are nice thou...aren't they.

I'm using a pocket PC (also my phone) with a built in GPS. That way I'm not nailed down to one brand of software. On the PPC - I run TomTom for the streets, Google Maps for trails, and Tracky Pro for trails too.. And when I'm just driving around I use "Speed Sentry" which is basically just a big speedometer since the stock one is horse crap.

Then I mounted it on my handlebars with a custom CF enclosure my buddy built.

After that I wired in a charger to the KLX's system so I never have a dead battery while riding... It works real well!!!
