Default Gears and sprockets - Request for info

All,

I want to put all our combined knowledge on sprockets and chains into one easy to read format.

Please respond to this post if you can contribute with the following information:

Front sprocket options including source (online please), part number, AND the specifics on the bike it's designed for since none list the '06 KLX250S yet. Example: Sprocket Specialists #514XK-13, Parts411.com, KLX650 '93-'96

Rear sprockets same deal

Chains - What chain length is required for 13/42, 13/45, 14/45, etc. combinations.

Once I've collected all the data (and gone through all the old posts), I'll addit to the stickys at the top.

Thanks.

Rear sprocket: Renthal 112U52-049, 49 teeth, designed to fit KLX300R

Gear ratio: with 14f/49r combo ratio is 3.50

Chain length required: 110 links

Online source: http://www.grandprixmotorsports.com/...r_Sprocket.htm

Chain: RK 520XSO X-ring, 110 link for above:

Chain breaker - useful tool for working with chains:

Comments: gearing is a little short for the road, but this is a great set up for technical terrain. Also, requires removal of the plastic chain guard. Bottom chain guard can stay, though.

Todd you probably know this but others may not, the rear hub for the KLX 250 and 300 is the same part number .. hence the same part, so any sprocket listed for the 300 will fit on the 250 hub. Once I order and try the 45 tooth / new chain I am going to order I will do a report for any ozzie readers

Yes, good point Mav. I wanted to collect those rear sprocket sources for completeness but they are certainly easier to find.

The flu's kickin' my ace at the moment but I'll get back on the job of cleaning this stuff up soon.

Hey man I am just getting over the flu, I still got a stuffy nose and my throat feels better now. But last monday the thing ripped right through me like it wanted to kill me. I was suffering from the shakes, really bad shakes!!!. I felt miserable for a week straight. I think it was also mixed in with all the pollen thats been snowing all over georgia. Seriously, its yellow everywhere, its like it snowed and everyone went out to pee on it, then it turned to dust and blew up your nose causing you severe headaches and congestion, and that sux to get it mixed up with the flu[:@]

Can anyone list a sourse for the spacers needed with the JT sprocket? Someone on another thread said he needed three .035 spacers. I had bought the sprocket but when I went to install it found out I needed the spacers....but the dealership close to me seems clueless.

I'd like to order online...but if someone who has done this and know the exact spacers to get from their dealer and wants to make an easy $10 plus the price of the spacers to ship me some...let me know !

I need to revive this topic that many of you put to bed a long time ago - rear sprocket & chain swapout.

Like many folks, I have already done the 13T up front and seen some benefit. I am seeing, though, that I need a little more giddyup in my getalong, so I am thinking I need to go for the 45T on the rear. In looking through this and other threads, it looks like this will be the best split for what I want. Try as I might, though, I am not coming up with part numbers for the 45T rear and chain required.

I see where Nobrakes uses a 110 chain for his 49T rear. He posted his source in this thread. Using that as a base, and info in other places that recommend a 108 or 109 for a 45T rear, my question is, will this chain work - LINK TO CHAIN @ WWW.CYCLEPAGES.COM

I see that this particular chain claims to be resistant to wear. Is $67 a reasonable price for a chain? I have never bought one, so I don't have a clue. I don't know a thing about chains, so unless someone is willing to take the time to educate me a little bit, just blessing this chain or recommending another will do.

I understand that the sprocket can be located with the knowledge that anything that fits the KLX300 should fit our bike. I will update this post with a part number and source once I get one.

Thanks to anyone with info.

Chris
