Default Fuel reserve for 2009 klx250S

I have run into this problem several times:

I was able to start the bike, but as soon as clutch is released, engine stalled. Thus I found I need to switch fuel to reserve. But I only used just a little bit more than 1 gallon. As I remembered that fuel tank capacity is 2 gallon.

Is there a question in there? I'm no expert but the clutch has nothing to do with the reserve fuel.

Sorry about the confusion. Clutch got nothing to do with it. I should just skip the clutch. Basically when engine started it was running with fuel in the hose and when clutch was released and throttle opened wide, fuel requirement starved and engine stalled. After a few attempt, engine will not start as there is no fuel in the hose.

Just want to know others experience about how much fuel is used before need to switch to reserve?

You should have to switch to reserve somewhere between 90 and 100 miles if my memory serves me...

The tank is 1.9 gallons, I think from memory reserve is around 0.4 gallons, therefore it goes that main is approx 1.5 gallons

Yes, put your kickstand up or get the switch fixed.

I have an '06, but my bike just shut off at 87 miles. switched to reserve for about a mile, and then I put in 1.43 gallons to fill it back up, so should be roughly .5 in the reserve. Personally I don't feel like finding out EXACTLY. It's about 99 degrees in the midwest today.

Oh, and I should mention there was some trail riding in there as well, if it were all street riding I probably would have made it over 90 miles before switching to reserve.

With a Clarke 2.7Gallon tank I get 149 miles to reserve and 169 to empty when street riding FWIW.
