Default Front forks making "graunching" sound

Hey, was moving my bike today and noticed that my front forks were making a crunchy/springy/graunchy noise on compression and rebound. Never noticed it before; anyone heard of this before?

Thanx.

I will make a WAG at this one. Although my bike, 06-250S, was leaking from one of the fork seals. I did a search on this site and others and found out that several people were complaining that packing material was left inside the forks.I took mine in for warranty service and sure enough, paper and tape was inside causing the leak. Although I had no noise coming from compressing the forks, this may be your problem.

Not to get off topic.............but when did you bring bike in for warrenty service?
Is there a specific time needed? If I don't bring it in for service....what than??
Thanks

Dave

I took mine in when the shock started leaking. I believe it was within a few weeks and under 200 miles. A 12 month warranty came with my bike and I did not buy a extended warranty. If you chose not to take your bike in to have a warranty claim repaired, you can do it yourself. I was worried that there might be something major and not just a bad seal.

Its just the springs doing their thing. They rub on the inside of the fork legs & such.

Ok, thanx for the replies; sounds like it's just normal noise.

You might want to change fork oil and make sure there is the proper amount in each side.

MIne does it too & I have other bikes that did it, mainly dirt bikes since the springs are so long. It is most noticable after it has sat & any oil settles.

Yup, mine did it after setting for a couple of months. The noise should pretty much goaway onceyou ride it again.
