First oil change
I did my first one at, lets see my maintenance log says.......at 40 miles after the hard break in. then 200 and 540 then 1000, then 2900 I switched to full Amsoil Synthetic 20/50, and just changed it again at 4400. Filter every time. I will probably go to close to 7500 until the next one, unless I submerge the bike like some other guys have done
.
.
I change the oil and filter every 600 miles since I have owned it. Plus another 7 times with only one filter since I triedSCUBA diving with it.I had also broke it in the way the owners manual suggested. It sucks keeping it below 4000 rpm until 500 miles, and below 6000 rpm until 1000 miles. There are other techniques on breaking the bike in if you don't have the patience.
I have been in the oil biz for more than 7 years and have seen numerous oil analysisisises... after seeing how much wear there was with my KLX after 40 miles I have since changed my oil about every 50 miles- and have seen a lot of wear in the oil each time- filter also- HOWEVER a lot of it depends on how yoiu ride the bike-- pro's change oil after every race- if you rev the ****e out of it for hours at a time like I do - every few uses is advised- if you do a lot of street miles totally different.. I suggest you drain the oil into a clean pan- and also use a white rubber glove and put your hand under the flowing oil- see how much metalic particles come out of the bike- while normal- it will give yoiu an idea of your needed frequency- drain your pan into another pan and see how much metal is at the bottom of the first-
my first change was 150 miles and in went the Amsoil.I did the same on my atv which takes a much harder beating and 3500 miles later on the atv and she is darn good.I'll prolly do my next change at 600 and then again at 1500...filters every time.always change the filter.99% of all the silver you see is from the clutch pack.If you get that much silver out of your motor with no clutch in it you'd have nothing left inside it.
I did my first at 62 miles and then again at 248 miles.
(I converted from kms).
With a hard break in.
Using Motul mineral oil.
Maybe **** but I wanted to get the metal out. I will ride it till about1864 miles before I go synthetic.
Changed the filter both times which was dark grey.
I do rev the bike pretty hard tho.
Just make sure you seat the rings well
